- OVERVIEW
- ````````
- This workshop is for Mac-literate communicators who want to learn to design and
- create interactive CD projects. You'll create an interactive CD prototype using
- a variety of Mac software and media including Adobe Premiere, Photoshop,
- Freehand, Director, and HyperCard. Working under the guidance of veteran
- interactive multimedia producers such as Rafael Olivas, Jon Leland, Michael
- Naimark, Marty Perlmutter, and Frank Wiley, participants experience a hands-on,
- whatever-it-takes-to-get-the-job-done approach. The workshop costs $2000
- (discounts for educators and multiple enrollments.) Enrollment is limited to 9.
-
- Our instructors have made significant contributions to internationally
- recognized multimedia projects, including Apple’s Visual Almanac, MIT’s Aspen
- Movie Map Project, and the Mystery discs. The Center, a non-profit, has
- completed prototypes for several public benefit topics and clients, including
- the Rainforest Action Network, the Vanished Children's alliance, EarthQuake
- Preparedness, and JobCity (a vocational counseling tool for at-risk jr. high
- students.) Students from all over the world attend our workshops.
-
- SYNOPSIS
- `````````````````
- • The workshop objective is to learn about multimedia by creating a 'design
- example,' or prototype, and by creating an actual CD. The class is an
- intensive, hands-on, roll-up-your-shirt-sleeves and get-your-hands-dirty
- experience. Much emphasis will be placed on the concepts and process of
- interactive multimedia design.
-
- • Veterans in multimedia discuss aspects of interactive multimedia
- design and production. Several design examples are analyzed and discussed.
-
- • Participants are introduced to each other and the basics of interactive
- multimedia design. You'll design and produce a prototype that meets the
- communications needs of the specific educational project chosen for this course
- (in this case, the topic is "Aspects of Multimedia Design." The teams combine
- people with varying backgrounds to enhance the group's efforts.
-
- • During the days spent on production, you're in the role of an apprentice, in
- a hands-on, holistic production environment, working under the supervision of
- pros who've done it before.
-
- • You'll learn all about digital video and Quicktime, and script, storyboard,
- light, mic, and shoot video footage. After logging the footage, you'll learn
- how to capture the desired shots. Next, you'll use Adobe Premiere or similar
- video editing software to create finished Quicktime movies.
-
- • Graphics tools such as Photoshop and Freehand are used to create screens and
- backgrounds. Animation programs such as Cinemation or Macromedia Director are
- used if animation is called for in your design. HyperCard will be used to tie
- it all together with buttons and control of the CD.
-
- • You'll use and learn about a wide range of hardware and software tools, their
- integration, strengths, and weaknesses.
-
- • Each participant will receive a CD copy of the final project, which will
- help you demonstrate what you've learned: to teach others what you've learned,
- to help you get work in the field, or to convince your boss to invest in a
- multimedia lab!
-
- • Monday, March 22 - Friday, April 2
- • Hours: Monday - Friday; 9am - 5pm (plus extra lab weekends / evenings)
- • Tuition: $2000 (discounts for educators and multiple enrollments)
- $1750 for Apple Multimedia Program members
- $1500 each for 3 or more people from the same company
